Linda Solomon: You started Harvey McKinnon Associates in 1989 and are best known for raising big money for groups like Amnesty International, Unicef and OxFam. You’ve also written four books, one that you co-authored with Azim Jamal called The Power of Giving: How Giving Back Enriches Us All (Penguin). I understand this book has been translated into seven languages. You’re no stranger to working the media or being worked by it. You have over 3,700 “friends” on Facebook so a lot of people think they know you. But, what don’t people know about you that they should?

Harvey McKinnon: They may not know that I produced the biography of William Shatner for CBC’s Life and Time series on BRAVO in the US.

SOLOMON: Okay. What else?

MCKINNON: They may not know that I paid for my first term tuition at university by playing poker.

SOLOMON: I assume it was lucrative. What else has been under the radar about you?
