The centrepiece of this campaign is a small paper dove "engagement device". The letter tells a moving story of a personal encounter with cancer, and invites the reader to dedicate the dove in remembrance of a loved one or in honour of a caregiver. Returned dedicated doves are then hung in the atrium of the hospital to give hope and inspiration to patients and their families over the holiday season.

The campaign won first prize in the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy’s 2003 Showcase Award as well as the 2003 Silver RSVP in the category of Fundraising/Nonprofit from the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA).

As BC Citizens for Public Power was a new organization with virtually no brand name recognition, the first mailing was used to gain public recognition. One of the major initiatives of the Citizens for Public Power was to sign up British Columbians to support a class action lawsuit. Letters of support were included in the package and became effective involvement devices.
Result:
This package has been phenomenally successful for BC Citizens for Public Power. After three prospect mailings, BC Citizens for Public Power had over 8,000 donors, and more than 55,000 people signed the class action lawsuit. The response rate for each package was the highest we’ve seen in years.
