Development Audits

“We got everything we asked for and more. Good conceptual work, helpful insights into organizational and programmatic issues, as well as a top-notch development assessment…. Most importantly, we enjoy working with the folks at McKinnon. We see them as partners for the future.”

Our development audits assess your organization’s current fundraising effectiveness and your readiness for growth.

We review your fundraising capacity and practices, and develop a framework and strategies to help you raise money more effectively and efficiently. We assess your organizational strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. And we analyze what your potential can be and what will work best for your organization.

The development audit also reviews communications from the donor’s perspective and offers recommendations to help you build donor loyalty. Ideally, the audit process and recommendations are integrated with your strategic planning.

Depending on your needs, we may also interview a number of staff, board, and other stakeholders and make recommendations on how to increase your effectiveness and capacity. The scope of our development audits varies between clients.

We offer audits in three main areas:

  • Overall organizational assessment
  • Direct mail
  • Monthly giving

Clients receive a draft document and are encouraged to provide input and feedback for consideration in the final audit document.

We recommend an audit if:

  • Your current program is not achieving your desired results.
  • You need an analysis of what is working well and what needs to improve.
  • You want to establish goals and achieve growth in your fundraising program.
  • You need to learn how to most effectively allocate your financial and human resources in both the short and long-term.
  • You want a healthier, more positive work environment.
  • You need a fundraising strategy that includes an action plan and timeline.

If you want to increase your fundraising effectiveness, please contact us. We'll be happy to help you determine if an audit is right for you. * Our organization is committed to protecting the privacy of our clients and other stakeholders. Please read our privacy policy for more information.
