For the second year in a row, Harvey McKinnon Associates (HMA) has sponsored the Youth in Philanthropy award at the annual AFP Golden Horseshoe awards luncheon. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has initiated numerous programs aimed at helping children from kindergarten to high school become engaged in philanthropic activities. Their annual gala is a chance to highlight one outstanding youth for their charitable work that year.[spacer height=”12px”]
This year’s deserving winner is Jessica Wilson. Having not once but twice received life-saving medical treatments at McMaster Children’s Hospital, Jessica saw first-hand the amazing work being done by their dedicated staff. As a result she became inspired to do all she could to give back to the hospital that gave so much to her.[spacer height=”12px”]
This motivated teen has spent the past four years helping organize fundraising events and donor appreciation nights, while also helping other children facing severe illnesses at the hospital through her personal blog.[spacer height=”12px”]
Jessica has worked hard to promote awareness around the important work being done at MCH. She has attended many celebrations and festivities around the hospital and in the surrounding community. In 2014 at the age of 15 she was named as McMaster’s official ambassador to the Canadian Children’s Champions delegation, which travelled to Disney World to meet with other Children’s Champions from across North America.[spacer height=”12px”]
Jessica is a shining example of what all youth in philanthropy should strive to be. She is caring, articulate, and devoted to helping others. Harvey McKinnon Associates are proud to be able to bestow this award on such a worthy recipient.[spacer height=”12px”]
